Photographs from a visit in July 2015. Annecy is an alpine town in southeastern France, where the River Thiou meets Lac d’Annecy. The old town is famous for its cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-colored houses.
Some photographs from a Sunday morning walk around the old town.
It was market day.
Walking along Quai des Vielles Prisons.
Two views from pont Perrière over the Thiou canal. This one looking east.
from the same bridge looking west towards the Palais de L’isle or old prison. It was built in the 12th century.
A few days later. Some pictures taken on a tour of Lake Annecy. I had last visited Annecy in 1977. I have some old slides taken in a similar spot. It will be interesting to compare the pictures. When I have scanned the slides I will update this page to show the old and new views.
Another view of the marina area.
Some pictures now from an evening walk around Annecy during a visit for dinner. This was taken on Quai Jules Philippe. At the end of the canal you can see the Pont des Amours.
This view is from Pont des Amours looking east. In the left distance you can see the rocky cliff face of Le Parmelan with a height of 1832m.
After dinner a walk around the town at night. The shops were still very busy.
Reflections in the still waters of the canal.
This is the north side of the old prison.
All of the restaurants were very busy.
A final picture from pont Perrière of the old prison at night.
