A first visit to the National Trust property Buckland Abbey near Buckland Monachorum.
Buckland Abbey was originally a Cistercian monastery, founded in 1278. After the dissolution of the monasteries the Grenville family acquired the property from Henry VIII in 1541.
From 1581 Buckland Abbey was the home of the Drake family when Sir Francis Drake bought it from Sir Richard Grenville.
