October 2017 - Some pictures taken during a brief visit to Cartmel. The ancient village of Cartmel is famous for the 12th Century Cartmel Priory.
Cartmel Priory. The Priory was built by Augustinian canons between 1190 and 1220. A large part of the Priory was destroyed at The Dissolution of the Monasteries, but the church remains.
The nave and altar.
The very elegantly carved woodwork in the choir stalls.
Another view of the nave.
Hales shop in The Square.
The brewing equipment in the Unsworth’s yard micro brewery.
The brewery, bar and shop.
The old Cartmel Priory Gatehouse which is now a Heritage Centre.
The Kings Arms.
Home of the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Apple Crumble. Highly recommended.
