Dunkery Beacon at 1705 ft (519 m) is the highest point in Somerset. This is the first visit for me.
The start of our short walk. Looking North from the car park.
The well worn path to the summit.
Still a few bright patches of heather around, although most of it is now over.
Approaching the summit.
Not the best of shots without a long lens. A Wheatear, probably resting on its way south for the winter.
The trig point on the summit.
Down through the haze you can just see Porlock Bay.
For a moment I was the highest person in Somerset!
Looking west to Rowbarrows on the next hill top.
A few views through the haze across the moorland.
