Gilwern

During a short break in South Wales in July 2017 we stopped at Gilwern to explore the village that was the home to an  ancestor several centuries ago. We wanted to see if we could find where they worked.
Gilwern is a village in Monmouthshire. It lies next to the River Usk and also the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. It was once an important industrial centre.

The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal near the bridge over Main Road. The bridge opening looked rather low but I guess the canal boats can just squeeze under it.

The mountain on the skyline is the Sugar Loaf at 596m high.
