The hamlet of Knowlton lies about 7 miles north of Wimborne Minster in east Dorset. It is famous for the derelict 12th century Norman church which is in the centre of a Neolithic henge monument. These pictures were taken in June 2015.
The entrance to the church and henge. The property is in the care of English Heritage.
Our visit was a recce to explore the site with a view to coming back at sunrise or sunset to get some atmospheric photographs during the golden hour.
This was my favourite picture of the day, with just a bit of help from Topaz filters!
You can see Norman and later architectural styles in the construction.
The foreground arch looks like classic Norman to me and the arch and window in the background look Gothic.
The southern aspect of the church. The site is well worth a visit. I have lived in Dorset for a long time and this was my first visit! However, I will be back with my camera.
New pictures - May 2016
A couple of new photographs taken on a short stop whilst passing the site. I hope to return for a sunset or dawn capture later in the year.
