A visit to the National Trust property, Lytes Cary Manor

The gardens were looking very nice but suffering a bit from lack of water.

There were several of these trees which have been shaped to look like Indian tepee tents.

The manor house was the former home of medieval herbalist Henry Lyte. The great hall in the house dates from the 15th century.

The chapel is the oldest part of the manor and dates from the 14th century.

A close look at the fine carving on the large piece of wood. I believe this is oak.

The traditional long shot down to the dovecote, but this time with new sculptures by the gates.

The black and white scupltures by the gate which are part of the Herbarium exhibition.
The connection with Lytes Cary is that Henry Lyte translated one of the first Herbal Remedies Manuals, Niewe Herball in 1578 and dedicated it to Elizabeth I. The exhibition of art work by various artists has been created in response to the beautiful Arts and Crafts inspired garden through the inspiration of the Niewe Herball. 'Herbarium'.

Nice white hydrangeas in the borders next to the house. This was the first time I had visited the house in a morning allowing some sunlight to strike the stonework on the house, albeit diffused light due to the cloud cover.

Nice colour in this flower border.
